Overview
Our consultancy partnered with Xircle to revamp their mobile app and website, addressing the lack of users and engagement caused by a subpar user experience. We led the design effort, advised on user research, and contributed to various phases of product development, including discussion, ideation, design, implementation, and testing of new mobile app releases.
Challenge
Xircle's app faced significant user adoption and engagement issues, with only 13 active users. User feedback from interviews and surveys indicated that the UI was not intuitive and underwhelming. Further research revealed that students disliked the original course management features as they reminded them of school rather than providing a fun experience.
Goal
The primary objectives were to:
Increase user adoption and engagement
Create an intuitive and exciting user interface
Develop features that encourage fun and social interaction
Deliver a visually cohesive mobile app and website UI aligned with Xircle's branding
Solution
To address the challenges and meet our goals, we implemented the following solutions:
User research: We guided the founders in conducting user research to create more value and understand user preferences.
Explored design trends: We researched design trends like micro-interactions and educated the team about designing for GenZ, emphasizing vibrant colors and clean UI.
Feature redesign: Using data and research findings, we brainstormed and designed new features with an intuitive UI, including a new hangout creation system to encourage fun and engagement.
Iterative design process: We progressed from low-fidelity to high-fidelity designs, incorporating feedback from co-founders during design meetings.
Cohesive branding: We crafted a visually cohesive mobile app and website UI that aligned with Xircle's branding.
Results
The project resulted in a successful relaunch with impressive outcomes:
User growth: In less than a month, Xircle grew to 200+ new users, a significant increase from the initial 13 users.
User satisfaction: 100% of users expressed excitement about the new UI and experience.
Stakeholder approval: Advisors provided overwhelmingly positive reactions to the website upgrade.
Expanded interest: Other colleges, including DeAnza and Santa Clara University, showed interest in using Xircle.
Long-term impact: We successfully demonstrated the importance of user-centered design to the cofounders, which influenced future projects and product development approaches.
